Corte San Pietro
Via Bruno Buozzi, 97B, 75100 Matera MT, Italy
Daniela Amoroso (2013)
This is a gentle and meticulous restoration and renovation of a cluster of derelict buildings into a modern hotel. The original buildings had been built over a series of ancient caves and underground structures resulting in a collection of extremely diverse volumes and spaces that could be re-purposed as a range of different hotel rooms. Walls, floors and ceilings were stripped back and repaired, the existing limestone cleaned, repaired and then complemented with materials of similar colouring to create a harmonious, relaxing and newly unified whole.
