Taking cues from the men’s fashion stores along this part of Collins Street, Kerstin Thompson Architects has created an imaginary ‘gentleman’s private salon’, where visitors might feel like they are stepping behind the curtain of a secret world. Thompson has also been acutely aware of the historic Athenaeum Club Building into which she has inserted her design of found and designed pieces. Like a beautiful stage set, this is a sharp, sensitive and sumptuous solution.
