Zaha Hadid (1997-2003)
This is one of Zaha Hadid’s earliest built projects where the exterior footpath is rolled into the building like an ‘Urban Carpet’ as she described it, drawing the public space of the street into an alternate public space inside the building. This element then meets Zaha’s constructivist compositions of form for the gallery spaces and exterior, along with the dynamic interior circulation elements – ideas which were further explored and developed in later projects.
I believe this to be one of Zaha’s early defining works.
